5 Ways to Sneak In More Physical Activity

“I don’t have time.”

“I’m too slow, I can’t keep up.”

“I don’t know what to do.”

The excuse list goes on and on… But it doesn’t have to. YOU can stop the whining right NOW and get your body moving. How? It’s easy. We’ve put together 5 of the easiest ways you can sneak in some movement to your already packed schedule. These are seamlessly built right into your busy life and some are even FUN! Let’s do this! Let’s get movin’!

1.Park Farther

Our first instinct as humans that constantly seek convenience and “the easy way out” is to go for what’s easiest, closest, and requires the least amount of work. The first place where you can start changing that mindset is in the parking lot! Although we’d rather turn on that blinker and wait endlessly until that front spot opens up, picking a spot farther away can help sneak in some extra steps. The bonus is you don’t have to wait for a spot, fight someone else for the one you both found, and you can even avoid the dings and scratches for parking alone. Park farther, walk it out, it’s good for you.

2.Take The Stairs

Want to get that heart pumping? Take the stairs! It’s no wonder that the stair master at the gym is always busy and that one of the most popular pieces of equipment. A few minutes a day on that thing and you’ll be feeling that burn. But in case you don’t make it to the gym or want to do a little extra time, take the stairs in the morning, during lunch, and on your way out. It may not seem like a lot but doing that little bit every day certainly adds up to more effort than you were doing before. So why not?!

3.Walk Breaks

Ever find yourself chasing the clock? Counting the minutes? Getting tunnel vision from looking directly at a screen for 8 hours a day? Break that cycle and go for a walk! In between meetings, projects, or on any of your quick downtime, get up and take a little stroll around the building or around the block. A few minutes outside in the fresh air and breeze will lift you up, get your energy moving, and add up to your daily calorie burn. It can do wonders for your mental clarity as well.

4.Move more during lunch

It’s 11:59 and you’re yearning to get out of your chair. It happens to all of us. What if you turn your lunchtime into a more productive, calorie-torching, movin’ and groovin’ time than just time to complain about your boss with your coworkers?! This is a great opportunity to move more and set the tone for the rest of your day. Divide your time and include some in where you can move! Do some quick yoga in your office, go for a brisk walk after you eat, or even get in some weightlifting at a nearby gym. Get creative with your lunch break but remember to include movement!

5.Play Time

We know… you get home and you’re tired. You’ve been beaten up all day by work and coworkers and long meetings. So when your kids or your dog come running up to you, it’s hard to muster up the energy to play. But how about next time they do, you go with it! Get on the floor, get messy, get creative! Laugh, play, roll, toss around toys, let it all out! This is a great way to relieve stress, get in some good belly laughs, and spend quality time with loved ones while you’re burning some calories! Playtime takes on a whole new meaning when you’re constantly on work mode.
